Life on Wheels discontinued

It was just announced today that the Life On Wheels conferences program is no more. With the passing of Gaylord Maxwell, (the founder) it is too much for his widow to continue the programs across the country.
This is a program that will really be missed by a lot of folks just starting out in the RV world as well as many old timers too.

RE: air brakes question

As for checking the brakes - is that taking it into a shop and having them open it up or?
Here is the brake check that I train drivers to use on M/H's.
____________________________________________________________________________________
MOTOR COACH
BRAKE CHECK-OUT PROCEDURE
FOR AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS
AIR GOVERNOR TEST
Start the engine and build air pressure until the compressor cuts out. Step down on the foot brake repeatedly but wait a few seconds in between to see if the air compressor cuts in (should be around 85 psi). Let the air build until the compressor cuts out (should not exceed 130 psi). NOTE: Wait for compressor to cut in between brake applications.
STATIC BRAKE TEST
Stop in a level location, or block a wheel to keep coach from rolling. Place transmission in neutral. Turn engine off and release parking brake. Keep foot off of service brake. Air loss should not exceed 2 psi in one minute.
APPLIED BRAKE TEST
Depress (step on) the service brake and keep it fully depressed for one (1) minute. After the air pressure has stabilized, the air loss should not exceed 3 psi in one (1) minute.
LOW AIR WARNING DEVICE
Turn ignition on. DO NOT START ENGINE. Observe the air pressure gauge and pump service brake until you can see the warning light come on and or hear the warning buzzer. The low air warning should come on at all pressures below 60 psi.
EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM TEST
Turn off ignition and then reduce the air pressure by pumping the service brake until emergency (parking) brake handle pops up (should be below 45 psi).
Start engine and try to move coach slowly against the emergency brake with low air pressure. NOTE: Caution should be used so as not to apply too much pressure against the brakes and drive train.
EMERGENCY BRAKE TEST
Allow air pressure to build up until it cuts out. Put coach in gear. Release parking brake. Move the coach and apply the emergency (parking) brake. This will tell you if the emergency brake works manually.
CHECK SERVICE BRAKES
Set coach in motion slowly, lightly hold the steering wheel, apply the service (foot) brake firmly to see if the steering wheel pulls to the left or right. This will give you an indication whether or not the front slack adjusters (brakes) are evenly adjusted.

RE: refrigerator side vent- pest control?

We just put in a box of moth balls.
The RV'er that showed us everything when we bought the RV told us about doing that. No pests.
IMHO not a good idea. You are putting mothballs made from Naptha which is highly flammable next to a live flame! :E
I use a cut up flea collar.

RE: Saf-Tee / Saf-TTE tire monitor

I have received an email from Aileen at gobiz.com.hk that said they have a new reseller in the U.S. and that he will be contacting me in a few weeks about sending replacement sensors. Hopefully this will give us a parts outlet for replacements. Will have to find out if they will honor the warranty or not. I will try to keep you all posted if there is any other updates.
At least it sounds like gobiz is trying to keep up.

RE: Saf-Tee / Saf-TTE tire monitor

I called SAF-TTE today (8-18-08). Their phone states no one is available to take the call and it is sent to the message box and then it states that the message box is full.
Is anyone able to make contact with them or has recently received a product from them?
I got the same answer on the phone for over a week now but today via USPS I got a replacement 12V cord from them, so I guess they are still around.

RE: Saf-Tee / Saf-TTE tire monitor

Did things just get better or worse?
For those that have the Saf=TTE TPMS any notion on how you would get warranty coverage?
JohnnyT Moderator
I just talked to DJ at the same #. He stated that warranty parts are being handled by them for now but in the coming weeks all parts orders and replacements will be honored by and go through the new company.
I had ordered a replacement 12 volt cord last week and he stated it would be shipped out today. (I hope)

Well, I just tried to go to their web site (Sun. 8/3) and it comes back as "cannot find server" All other sites work just fine. I wonder if they shut down the web page or what??

RE: SAF-TTE (update)

I'm not sure why I am one of the lucky ones that have been able to deal successfully with them but I'm sure not going to knock it. It seems like some of us have had nothing but terrible experiences with them and others have been able to get help every time we call. Whatever the reason, I am satisfied with the product and even though it doesn't do exactly as they claim, it certainly works well enough to warrant the cost and I feel comfortable knowing the alarms will let me know when I have a tire losing air. I have tried the alarms and know they work on all 10 tires, (M/H & toad) Compared to some of the other systems out there I feel my problems so far have been no worse then with the other systems I have seen. Only time will tell if I continue to be happy with this system but so far, so good.

SAF-TTE (update)

I received the new monitor today by UPS as promised. I got it programmed and it seems to be working OK as far as reading all of the sensors. It still skips around and doesn't read in sequence like it should but at least it is now reading all of them so I am happy for now. I will know more after the next two days of traveling.
The new style monitor is a little easier to read since it shows the pressure on the left and in bigger numbers then the old one, plus you can now program each axle for different alarms on the front vehicle.

RE: Wa. hwy. 124 from Pasco east

my wife uses that road to go to Lewiston to visit. It's a long boring ride she says. the road it self is OK just two lanes so watch out for the fast guys who like to pass every thing on the road.
Thanks old guy, It looks like it is shorter then staying on Hwy. 12 all the way. I just wanted to make sure it was ok for a 36' motor home.

RE: WIND NOISE IN GRILL

Pearlie,
I also have a Bounder that had that same problem. It's caused by the wind on the hollowed out grill bars. The fix is easy, I just used some Eternbond tape on the back side of the grill bars and noise was gone. Some Bounder dealers have filled the bars with something to make them more solid so they don't vibrate in the air flow.
You might want to join the bounder group on Yahoo groups at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/bounder
You will find a lot of very good Bounder specific answers from some very knowledgable Bounder owners and Fleetwood go between folks.
I haave wind noise on 2008 35H Gas Bounder at 50 to 60 mph.
have checked !!!! Could anyone tell me the cause are just a pointer?
The noise seems to be lower right grill

RE: saf tee tire monitor question

I also have a bad monitor and am waiting for the new one as we speak.
(yes it was sent and I have a tracking # from UPS) mine drops sensor readouts randomly, sometimes 2 or three at a time. As Sgt. Joe said, call them Monday Morning and talk to DJ, make sure you find out if they are in stock or when they expect them since that seems to be a problem.

I'm with Gale Hawkins on this one. I also have the SAF-TTE system and like it a lot Especially since it is almost 1/2 the price of pressure pro system.

Just checked again with UPS tracking and now it does show that # on the UPS site so I assume it will be shipped today and will arrive by the middle of next week. I feel a lot more confident now then I did this morning. :) :)

RE: Saf-Tee / Saf-TTE tire monitor

Just checked the UPS tracking # I got yesterday from Todd, no such # on record with UPS. Called again and was told that was the correct # and they will check today with UPS and find out what the problem is. :? I will call back later today and report on results.
